Peru backs Colombia in allowing US Military Forces to use Colombian Bases

LIMA, PERU: President Alan Garcia of Peru met with Colombia's President for more than an hour Tuesday. The two discussed the pending agreement between Colombia and the Pentagon to allow US troops to use Colombian bases in support of operations to fight drugs and terrorism. The pending agreement has not been well received by neighboring Venezuela and Ecuador. President Uribe is visiting 7 UNASAR member nations this week to explain the deal and line up support. Tuesday evening, Uribe was in Boliva, meeting with President Evo Morales. Wednesday, he heads to Chile and Brazil. Meantime, in Cartagena, Colombia's Acting Defense Minister Freddy Padilla, says the only people who need to be worried about US Forces in Colombia are terrorists and drug traffickers.
